Richter’s Reliable Community Workday

One day of practical help for one local organization each quarter—supporting useful physical projects, appliance needs, technology and digital work in Parrish and nearby North Manatee.

Practical help for organizations serving our community

Established charities, churches, schools, youth organizations with an adult sponsor, nonprofits and civic groups may apply. An authorized organizational representative must submit the request. Direct applications from individual homeowners are not accepted during the pilot.

An organization may sponsor a project that benefits a person or family, but the organization must select the beneficiary, manage eligibility and consent, and remain the project contact.

Publicity is always optional. Reviews, backlinks, testimonials, photographs and social posts are never required and have no role in project selection.

Projects that may fit the workday

Eligible examples

  • Furniture or equipment assembly
  • Shelving, storage, minor carpentry and selected repairs
  • Painting preparation and touch-ups
  • Appliance assessment or supported non-gas repair
  • Computer, Wi-Fi, networking and basic website assistance
  • TV, display or technology setup where mounting conditions are appropriate
  • Community-event setup, cleanup or beautification

Work the program does not cover

  • Emergencies, recurring maintenance or cash assistance
  • Political campaigns, commercial businesses or projects mainly serving private interests
  • Gas appliances or refrigerant and sealed-system work
  • Regulated electrical or plumbing work, structural alterations or roofing
  • Active leaks, mold, hazardous materials or unsafe heights
  • Projects requiring unverified licenses, permits or approvals

How applications are reviewed

Applications are considered without regard to publicity. Submission does not guarantee selection, and the program can provide no more than one scheduled workday to the selected project.

What happens before an accepted project

Confirm the fit

Cory reviews scope, site conditions, insurance coverage, materials, permissions and whether the work can be completed safely within one day.

Put the scope in writing

A short agreement defines labor hours, exact work, materials, access, existing damage, cancellation terms and any approved photo consent.

Prepare the workday

The organization provides an adult representative on site and has beneficiary permission, access, approvals, permits and additional materials ready.

Safety and insurance come first. If coverage for an uncompensated physical project is unclear, the pilot will be limited to digital assistance or a supervised nonprofit volunteer event until coverage is confirmed.

Please apply on behalf of an established organization. Do not use this form for emergencies or ordinary service requests. Project addresses and application files remain private.

Unsuccessful application files are retained only as needed for review and are scheduled for removal after 12 months. If a project is selected, separate written permission is required before any public recap.

Important: Donated labor is not advertised as tax-deductible. The value of donated time or services generally cannot be deducted; qualifying out-of-pocket expenses may be treated differently, so consult a tax professional. See IRS Publication 526.

Florida volunteer protections may apply to authorized work for a qualifying nonprofit, but they do not replace insurance, careful conduct or a written scope. See the Florida Volunteer Protection Act.
